BriefBook — Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using BriefBook ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

BriefBook is developed and operated by BriefBook ("we," "us," or "our"), an individual developer based in Brazil.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and BriefBook. Please read them carefully.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use BriefBook. By using the App, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement.

3. Your Account

To use BriefBook, you must create an account using a valid email address or a supported third-party login (Google Sign-In). You are responsible for:

• Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
• All activity that occurs under your account.
• Notifying us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or are inactive for more than 24 months.

4. Description of Service

BriefBook is a gamified book-summary application that provides:

• Book summaries — condensed summaries of popular non-fiction and fiction books, available as text.
• Gamification features — XP (experience points), reading streaks, quests, achievements, and collectible owl characters that reward consistent reading.
• Free and Premium tiers — a free tier with limited access and premium subscription tiers with full access to the summary library and exclusive features.

BriefBook provides summaries, not the full text of any book. Our summaries are original works created to capture the key ideas and insights of each book. They are intended to complement, not replace, reading the original works.

5. Subscriptions & Payments

5.1 Subscription Plans

BriefBook offers optional premium subscriptions:

Prices may vary by region and are subject to change. Any price changes will take effect at the start of your next billing period.

5.2 Billing & Renewal

All payments are processed through Google Play Billing. Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.

5.3 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time through Google Play Store → Subscriptions → BriefBook → Cancel. Upon cancellation:

• You retain premium access until the end of your current billing period.
• Your reading progress, XP, and owl collection are preserved (they are not deleted).
• Your account reverts to the free tier when the paid period ends.

5.4 Refunds

Refund requests are handled by Google Play in accordance with Google Play's refund policy. We do not process refunds directly. If you believe you were charged in error, please contact Google Play Support or email us at hello@mybriefbook.com for assistance.

6. Intellectual Property

6.1 Our Content

All content within BriefBook — including but not limited to book summaries, illustrations, owl character artwork, UI design, animations, logos, and branding — is the intellectual property of BriefBook or its licensors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

6.2 Your Use

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use BriefBook for your personal, non-commercial use. You may not:

• Copy, reproduce, distribute, or publicly display any BriefBook content (summaries, artwork, etc.) without our prior written consent.
• Modify, create derivative works from, reverse-engineer, or decompile the App.
• Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, etc.) to access or extract content from the App.
• Sell, sublicense, or commercially exploit any part of the App or its content.
• Share your premium account credentials with others or use a single subscription on behalf of multiple users.

7. User Conduct

When using BriefBook, you agree not to:

• Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation.
• Attempt to circumvent subscription restrictions, access controls, or security measures.
• Interfere with or disrupt the App's infrastructure, servers, or networks.
• Use the App to transmit malware, spam, or other harmful content.
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.
• Exploit bugs or vulnerabilities in the App. If you discover a bug, please report it to hello@mybriefbook.com.

8. Disclaimers

BriefBook is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to:

• Merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
• That the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
• The accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any book summary or content.

Book summaries are editorial interpretations and may not capture every nuance of the original work. They are provided for informational and educational purposes and should not be considered professional advice of any kind (financial, medical, legal, etc.).

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, BriefBook and its developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from:

• Your use of or inability to use the App.
• Any content obtained from the App.
• Unauthorized access to or alteration of your data.
• Any third-party conduct or content within the App.

In no event shall our total liability exceed the amount you have paid to BriefBook in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or R$ 100.00, whichever is greater.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account and access to BriefBook at our discretion, without prior notice, if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct that we determine is harmful to other users or to BriefBook.

You may terminate your account at any time by deleting it through the App (Settings → Account → Delete Account) or by contacting us at hello@mybriefbook.com.

Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Intellectual Property, Disclaimers, Limitation of Liability, and Governing Law) shall survive.

11. Modifications to the Service

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of BriefBook at any time, with or without notice. This includes adding or removing book summaries, changing features, adjusting pricing for new subscribers, or retiring gamification elements.

We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes through the App or via email.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top and notify you through the App or via email. Your continued use of BriefBook after such changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

If you disagree with the updated Terms, you may stop using the App and delete your account.

13. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federative Republic of Brazil, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions.

Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of BriefBook shall be resolved in the courts of Brazil. If you are a consumer residing in Brazil, you are also entitled to bring claims in the courts of your place of residence, in accordance with the Brazilian Consumer Defense Code (Código de Defesa do Consumidor).

14. Google Play Terms

BriefBook is distributed through the Google Play Store. Your use of the App is also subject to Google Play's Terms of Service. In the event of a conflict between these Terms and Google Play's terms regarding the App, these Terms shall prevail to the extent permitted.
